News from France

Hi folks,

A few lines to say that the "office" has been well used for counselling / teaching since June time. We're seeing a steady flow of Christians and non-christians coming for help.
We're talking about opening up a question night for those interested in getting to know God better (as He really is!).
We managed to pull together the finances to purchase a small motorbike for Erwin's ministry travels in the region.
A recent trip over to Corsica proved very fruitful for counselling and teaching with one local church & leaders. A return trip is preview 20 - 22 November to continue the work. The ground on the island is much harder than France. The churches are in general small and very fragile. It is a hard mentality to break into with the Kingdom. Do pray for God to move & for our input.
A prayer news letter is due out soon for more info.
The translation of our web site into English has just been completed. You may want to take a look: www.ccmaison.com/english

Update from Belize: October 2007!

Belize and Beyond Mission Update: October 2007

“You have given him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips.” Psalms 21: 2

Lighthouse Christian Radio, San Pedro Town:

(Abner Sanchez, Dennis Requena and Clive Welsh in the studio of Lighthouse Christian Radio.)

We received approval by the Belize Civil Aviation for the erection of a 40 foot tower on the building that houses Lighthouse Christian Radio station! We rejoice in the Lord for this answer to prayers and now we are proceeding with plans to acquire the necessary materials to start the work. Because we are still in the peak hurricane season, we’ll wait until it is over before starting the actual construction of the tower. How excited we are to be so much closer to upgrading our equipment so we can reach into Belize City and other areas with the teaching of God’s Word. If you would like to participate in this project in any way, please contact me for further information.

Our slogan: “Shining the Light in Darkness, Lighthouse Christian Radio FM 101.3.”

A faithful listener stopped by the radio station a few weeks ago to tell us how much she appreciates the teaching programs and how she turns on her radio before 6 o’clock in the mornings waiting for us to sign on. She was so excited when I told her that we are looking into broadcasting 24 hours and hoping to do that soon. Another thrilled listener called when we announced our desire to soon be on 24/7 and vowed to pray until it happens. And finally, we received a report about a local pastor who in his astonishment asked why he never heard us asking or pleading for money on the radio for the upgrade and extension of our signal. It blesses me so much when I heard this because that is not normal for radio ministries in Belize as many are constantly begging and threatening listeners if they do not give support. I shared with him about the reality of the saying that I’ve grown up hearing and seen practiced by Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, ‘where God guides, He provides’. Thanks so much for being apart of God’s provision and the allowing us to be a good example of a radio ministry that seeks to give freely as we have received freely. God’s Word is truly making a difference in Belize!

Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship, Spanish Lookout:

The fellowship continues to grow in grace and knowledge as we rotate teachers for the Sunday Morning Worship service; Ronald, Jacob and I. On Wednesday evenings we play the DVD series, “The Bible at 30,000 Feet” with Pastor Skip Heitzig of Calvary Albuquerque, New Mexico. We receive the DVDs from their current series and are behind about a month and are being greatly blessed going through the Bible in a year with Pastor Skip. As you know, we have prayed for months for an Interim Pastor to take Rudy’s place and the Lord provided for us in a way we would never had imagined through the means of media. We get to be apart of the fellowship of Calvary Albuquerque weekly and enjoy the teaching of God’s Word.

Beyond our Borders:

Several weeks ago, Ben, Peter, Abner and I boarded a small bus and traveled 13 hours to visit the Calvary Chapel El Salvador in San Salvador, Central America! I met Pastor Carols Bautista several years ago at the Central American Pastors Conference in Guatemala and immediately a bond developed as I listened to him teaching the Word (through a translator) in an expositional way. That is something very rare in most Central American churches. Last year, we invited him to Belize to teach the Spanish Pastors in the surrounding villages of the Mennonite Community and the pastors were greatly blessed as they learned how to teach the Bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse. We’ve heard great reports of what God is doing in the church in Salvador so we went to see for ourselves and to further our fellowship and friendship with Pastor Carlos. The half had not been told to us as we saw first hand the work that God is doing there. We were able to see the various ministries; schools, orphanages, church plants and radio ministry to name a few. We were interviewed both on their radio station and at the mid-week services where we shared the needs of the Spanish speaking population in Belize. As a result of our time there, the Calvary Chapel El Salvador is looking into bringing a team down to Belize around Easter time next year to minister alongside Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship, Spanish Lookout and Lighthouse Christian Radio, San Pedro Town where most of the residents are Spanish speaking. How thrilling it is for me to see one of my heart’s desires being fulfilled as we’re knit together hearts and hands in the fields in Central America for the Kingdom of God, truly Belize and beyond. My prayer is that one day soon both an English and Spanish speaking Calvary Chapel would be establish on Ambergris Caye.

Prayer Requests:

Please pray for Dennis as he oversees the Radio Ministry in my absence, for protection on the equipment and provision to broadcast 24/7, the 40ft. tower and antennas.

Please pray for a time of rest and refreshment; physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Pray for fresh vision and direction in the work in Belize.

Update from Belize, Central America

Belize and Beyond Mission Update: September 2007

Active Hurricane Season:

Hurricane Dean made landfall in the Yucatan a couple weeks ago, just north of Belize and the Northern Districts of Orange Walk and Corozal was affected as homes and large potions of the papaya industry were destroyed. San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye where Lighthouse Christian Radio is located experienced little damage; flooding in some areas, uprooted trees and some pier damaged. Dennis Requena, station manager chose to weather the hurricane on the Island and housed several families in the Lighthouse Apartments. We were off the air for a period of 24 hours before electricity was restored. We thank the Lord for His protection and grateful for the limited damaged.

We were spared another hurricane just 10 days after Dean passed by us making it an all time record of 2 category 5 hurricanes in such short period of time to threated Belize. God was merciful and hurricane Felix was diverted away from Belize and made landfall in an unpopulated area of Nicaragua. Please pray for those affected there and for those in the northern districts of Belize who are still recovering from Hurricane Dean.

Ocean Hills Church Mission Trip:

The team of 4 men worked very hard to lay the foundation for a covered area for the residents of Marla’s House of Hope while the 6 women spent precious moments teaching, playing with and loving on the children. Several of the boys worked alongside of the men and a great bond developed as they received the influence of godly men who showered them with the love of the Lord. I was moved to tears several times as I observed the affect these men had on these fatherless boys as they worked together.

The men of Ocean Hills joined in with the men of Amazing Grace as they worked 2 days on the interior of the new church building. It was a great time of fellowship and special friendships were developed. Both men’s group closed off their time together at the Men’s Prayer Meeting on Friday evening in the almost finished building. We had a great time of sharing, praying and laughter.

The women of Ocean Hills Church blessed the ladies and their invited guest to a special Women’s Faspa (Snack) where they lavished love on the ladies with all of the trimmings. They transformed the meeting room into something that only ladies can do with all the fluff and dainties. The times they spent individually with the folks from Ocean Hills turned out to be one of the highlights for them both.

And finally, the Sunday School Teacher’s Training was a great success as some 15 churches participated by sending 60 teachers to the half day training. Many who attended expressed such gratitude for the time of fellowship, sharing resources and learning how to better minister to the children in their churches. I am so thankful for the servant hearts of the OHC team and all of the hard work that went into the preparation of the training, their time at Marla’s House of Hope and with the church body of Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship!

Praise and thanksgiving:

I received an email from the Belize Civil Aviation informing us that we were approved for the 40 foot tower to go on the roof of the building. We thank the Lord for this open door as we now have the opportunity to reach more people with the teaching of God’s Word on Lighthouse Christian Radio. Our desire is to have our signal reach into Belize City where over 80,000 people resides. Thank you for your consistence prayers and support in this venture.

We are also thankful for the almost completed church building for Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship, Spanish Lookout. It has been a thrill to watch the Lord work in the lives of the brothers in the fellowship as they worked feverishly together on the building in their spare time amidst their busy schedules.

So grateful to God for His provisions, protection, power and proven faithfulness to us in the hurricane season!

Points of Interest:

Belize celebrates its 26th birthday as a nation on September 21.

It will be 13 years since I returned to Belize on September 27.

September 2003, the radio station was handed over to me by its previous owner.

Prayer Request:

Please pray for protection from Hurricane Felix as it heads toward Belize.

Please pray for provisions for those still recovering from Hurricane Dean.

Please pray that God would use these hurricanes to turn the leaders of the Nation to a real revival of hearts and a turning away from sin.

Please pray for provisions for the upgrade of equipment for Radio Station; tower, antennas, generator and broadcast console/mixing board.

Please pray for a much needed vacation; a time of rest, refreshment and renewal.

Final post from Costa

This will be my final update on Costa Rica until we land. The trip has continued to run smoothly and God is taking special care of us. I did a partial update yesterday after our free day so let me update you on what has taken place since.

Awards: due to missing awards for 2 days ( skate night and me being sick) we had an extra large serving of ice cream...

Savannah: Won an award for sharing her testimony at the skate night, I have already posted the story, but she did an awesome job. It is always difficult to share such a personal thing, especially through a translator, but she rocked the house

Kim Nicol: Also previously mentioned, but she dropped in on a skate board which was something very few non skaters tried to do and after lots of determination and practice she accomplished it

Kimberly Schlenker: Won the award of valor and courage on the zipline. She was able to overcome all her fears and soared like the eagles through the jungle

Chris F: I brought 4 sets of snorkeling gear on the trip to take out 3 students at a time on snorkeling excursions. Well I loaned my stuff out yesterday and Chase lost one of my masks, so Chris tried to help him find it, only to lose that one. So i probably shouldn't reward people losing my stuff, but hey why not

Chase: When we got to the zip line, one of the guides asked if I was "woozie" for going on the zip line (scared) (think rasta accent) and I told him no, that I had done it before, but that Chase was "woozie" so the guide got everyone else to call Chase woozie all day, it was quite hilarious. The cherry on top however was when Madison came and she became known as "Woozie's Sister"

Chris Nicol: Well on the zip line when we were on the platform with the howler monkey Chris and i decided to play with the howler monkey, I mean monkeys need to make new friends. So I was imitating his call and Chris was grabbing the branch he was on and shaking it to and fro. I think the monkey really liked it because he made more noise and moved about a lot more!

Last night was a really great night and I heard from many that it was their favorite night. We set up a rocking chair in the middle of the group and i asked for students to sit in the chair, share what is going on in their lives and how we can pray for them. We would then have 2 other students immediately pray for them. It was an amazing night that more than 90% of everyone were willing to get up the courage to share what was going on. And now as believers we can support one another. It was really cool and freeing for many students.

Tonight is another special night and not jest because it is our last night. Weather permitting, we are having worship and a bonfire on the beach and following that with a baptism. I am very excited to see what the Lord has in store for us this evening. So please keep that in your prayers.

PICKUP CREW: thanks so much to those that signed up to pick us up at the airport. Also if you desire to pick us up but didnt sign up you are more than welcome to meet us at the airport. Our plane lands at LAX at 11:15pm and I am guessing at least 45 minutes for baggage and customs. You can click here for real time tracking of our flight and the most up to date details on it. Also if you are tech savvy you can register here and get a text message when our plane lands. I also plan on updating the webpage the moment we land (can do it from my cell phone) but that is dependent on the battery life of my phone.

Thank you all for your prayers and we will see you tomorrow!

Costa Rica Day 4

So day 4 lets see what happened. Still no injuries and God is doing mighty and amazing things. I have really like where the Spiritual aspect of the trip has taken us. Two nights ago I spoke about Psalm 139 and how this Psalm breaks into 4 parts talking about God's omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, and His holiness, respectively. We then shared as a group how we have seen these attributes of God in our lives and in Costa Rica. Last night we looked at 1 Chronicles 4:9-12, also known as the Prayer of Jabez. We discussed how as a team we can pray the same prayer and how God has already answered many aspects of that prayer. Then we discussed what has been hindering us and holding us back from fully serving God. I challenged the students to think about this and we will discuss it later in the week. I have also been blown away by the quality of our morning devotions. So far we have had 5 leaders share their testimony: Bryan, Kim, Billy, Lindy, and Matthew, and they have done superbly.

The teams have been continuing their projects at their respective locations. They have been doing awesome jobs and really making a difference in the community. Team Holla Holla was taught some Salsa dancing by some locals, and in usual style, the girls were excited and the boys watched.

Awards: Brett Schorr (also known as BrettSchorr.com) has stubbed both toes and then cut his heel on something, so he got an award for his accidents. Don't worry BrettSchorr.com's mom, Brett is doing great!
Edward: We took a group snorkeling and swimming out to an island not far off the coast. On the way back I speared a lobster, but it was stuck in the rocks, and Edward was the one who was able to retrieve it. We took it back to the hotel and cooked it, it was mighty tasty, freshest sea food ever.
Michael James: I was told he worked the hardest on his team and did an awesome job setting an example.

Prayer Requests
Tonight is our large youth outreach night. We are inviting people from the community to the skate park for a giant BBQ and skating, and then we will have a time of worship afterwards. Please pray that God is moving at the event, that students are able to leave their comfort zones and outreach to new friends.
Tomorrow we are taking an excursion to Bri Bri (not Brianna) and going to spend some time playing in the jungle, swimming under a waterfall and trying to make friends with monkeys. Pray for safety. Upon returning, one team will be traveling to the skate park and the other teams will be participating in a prayer walk around the town.

Exciting times are upon us and I cant wait to see what God has planned. Side note: the upload rate here is terrible, its worse thatn when i was on a modem speed back in the day. So the newest photos are at a very low quality, but when we return, i will have beautiful large prints and we're working on getting a DVD with all photos for anyone.

As Promised....

Since Evan's doing such a great job of posting the daily happenings, I figured I'd post a few pictures & some of my thoughts as a long-term missionary in this location (well, at least for the next 6 weeks).

At the Skate Park: One of the greatest aspects of the Concrete Jungle Skate Park & music cafe is that everything you see exists because of short term teams that have partnered with us in ministry. We've had some professional construction teams that helped with big projects like framing the roof, and we've had less professional construction teams that have helped paint, sand or varnish the cafe. I LOVE the fact that the Ocean Hills team is serving & working hard, leading us closer to our goal of completion of the cafe & skate park. One of the best things about the construction work is that I can name more than 2o people who have come to know Christ or made the decision to follow Him specifically because the skate park & music cafe exist. Our team is working to build, literally, God's kingdom!

Here's a few pics from the Alternative Missions property:

At the Colegio: Ocean Hills is actually our last mission team this summer & is helping us end with a bang as far as the local "Colegio" (or high school, in English) is concerned. All the painting & repairs the team is doing is great follow up work for outreaches we've done in the high school earlier this summer. For me, one of the best things about this week is the encouragement we're offering to the colegio teachers & for the Directora in particular and the opportunities this gives us to share the Truth of God. In fact, we have been invited to come & use the Word of God to take part in the group counseling sessions held weekly for each class. Please pray that God would give us wisdom as we pursue the local students & teachers. Isn't great news how projects that seem petty to us can actually be used as a great tool in the hands of the One who pursues mankind in love?

Here are some pictures from the work at the Colegio:

We've had a great week together so far & I look forward to what the rest of the time holds. I have genuinely enjoyed getting to know the students and leaders and am thankful that they're here!

Please continue to pray for the OHC team that God would give them boldness and cultural sensitivity in pursuing the local youth in friendship. Pray that they would use their testimonies as an encouragement to the local youth and that the local youth would do likewise. Since the youth retreat, many of them have been growing like crazy in their faith! So, praise God & let's be praying for more growth in both the OHC team as well as the local youth.

Joyfully Serving,

TJ Gause

Day 3 Costa Rica

Another day of work and more work. Lets break it down:

Holla Holla: Painting is their middle name. They continued to paint the school, finishing what they started yesterday. They have actually finished all the painting at the school that was planned for them way ahead of schedule. Tomorrow they paint trees. Apparently this protects them from insects.

tClick tclick and Spicy Ponies: Today they joined forces and worked at the skate park and the music cafe. The table is almost completely constructed. The upstairs of the cafe has been varnished. The jungle trail behind the property was cleared of debris. Trash and green waste was burned (cultural thing) it was an active day for the crew. After the work, spicy ponies stayed for some skate sessions and they quite enjoyed themselves.

Awards:
Servants: Billy H and Shelby both won awards for being servants today. Billy went above and beyond multiple times to serve people by offering his chair, food, being polite etc. I Was told by 2 leaders that Shelby was extremely outgoing and cheerful and did the best of reaching out to students at the skate park.

Look what I caught: Bryce thought it would be cool to catch a crab and make friends. I was also told that the reason his nail was hanging off his finger was because of the crab, so he won, i then learned it was a skating injury, don't worry though, i didn't revoke the ice cream.

Prayer: Still no big injuries, we are feeling well and going strong. Please pray that our strength continues and we have the energy to finish the week out strong.

Tomorrow: I wanted to upload some photos but the camera i brought doesn't have the right cord so tomorrow I guess. The teams are at the usual locations for ministry, but we have the opportunity for some to go to Manzanillo for some fun free time. (City south of Puerto Viejo) It will be exciting.

Day 2

Well Day2 has come and gone. Sorry I was unable to get to a computer last night, but here is a recap of the day. Oh and about the photos, I am trying to get them, but they take about 5 minutes per photo to make it online so it is very slow going.
Today was our first work day and it was great, we broke into our 3 teams and this is what we did:

Spicy Ponies: They worked at the music cafe. The building had fiberboard on the ceiling (similar to our drywall but resistant to moisture) and the weight of the fiberboard was sagging the roof itself. So we had to take it down, it was very similar to removing the ceiling in the new Frequency Room, except this time we did it systematically and without a mess. My favorite was when Edward was on a ladder that was being supported by Kimberly Schlenker and Chase Davis. I was a little worried when I saw it, but April (Abril in Spanish) asked if everything was okay and Chase responded with "I got them locked" referring to his elbows. Which brings me to a good point, we have had no major injuries and no sickness. Nothing a little band aid couldnt fix.

Team tClick tClick: worked at the skate park. Ryan, Michael J, and Peter built a table with Ronnie, the local pastor and a good friend. They had a blast and learned a lot about wood working. The rest of the team sanded wood around the building and then stained it or painted it. It is amazing the difference a little paint can do. This team also had the privilege to participate in Skating that night. It was "Ladies Night" so some of the girls tried the ramps at the skate park (which is the best skate park on the Carribean side of Costa Rica, coincidently it is also the only one) so the boys help teach some of the girls how to skate.

Team Holla Holla: Worked at the local high school. They spent much of their day painting. It was almost at home for me and April, because one of the classrooms they painted was originally the color of our walls in or house, and they painted the room to the color of our couch. (Teal to a Lime Green color). Matt H. was the one who had to tape off the ceiling to protect it from paint and got to crawl around in the room like a monkey doing this, he told me he was thinking of starting a business in taping. They also painted the fence outside the building. Today is mother's day in South America, so today Holla Holla is helping throw a Fiesta with the students for their moms.

Awards: Every night we have team awards for 2-3 people who did something amazing that day and we had 3 last night.

Ladder Save: Leader Bryan was on a ladder with a piece of fiberboard on his head, the ladder began to slip and Bryce Baker with Cat-Like reflexes grabbed the board as well as the ladder, saving Bryan from certain doom. It was a move Batman would be proud of.

Taping: Matt H. received one for his amazing attitude throughout the day and his monkey business mentioned earlier.

That sucked: goes to Billy M. who surfed in waves bigger than ever before and got tossed around, he now knows the power of our God... (his words not mine)

Prayer Requests: We have been having having great morning devotions and evening meetings, please pray that the students are receptive to the Lord and listen. Students have been doing great at being on time, and i would like to see that continue, also their attitude has been amazing. The weather has been great, pray that God continues to bless us with Weather, but maybe ask He turns the temperature down a little. I have been taking some groups of students snorkeling and that has been amazing seeing God's creation underwater (we have seen eels, octopus, lobster, thousands of fish that are very brightly colored and found in the "Finding Nemo" coral, shells, and other awesome stuff). So please pray that the water clears up a little so we can continue this. There is a possibility that some of the guys can go to an open mic night (open jam) so that would be sweet. We were asked to play but our bassist is unsure of his abilities (he is a drummer by nature) Open Mic is an awesome opportunity to play worship to a people group that hears the same Bob Marley album all day long. In closing please pray that God continues to do what He has been doing :)

Day 1

Well before I even get to talking about Costa Rica, this is the 100th post on the Frequency website, very exciting! Today was a get to know Costa Rica day, we visited the skate park and the music cafe that Alternative Missions has built over the past 2 years. Then we went on a scavenger hunt throughout the city. The objective wasn´t to find items or located buildings, but more to meet people in the community and learn about the culture. My favorite part was we had to find the Spencers. The only was to do this was to ask locals where they lived, some of us received good directions others received very poor directions. Edna Spencer was really fun to talk to, she has lived in the community for 30 years and described lots of the changes over those years. The city only received electricity 15 years ago, it used to thrive off of chocolate, but then a disease came and wiped out the chocolate, but now they rely on tourism. It was a really fun day.

Tomorrow will begin our first day of full ministry, 2 teams, Team tclick tclick and Team Spicy Ponies will be going to the skate park and working on various projects there. There is a jungle trail between the park and the ocean (the waves crash on the sound, then there is 30 feet of jungle and palm trees, then there is the main road) and in that jungle area is a really cool trail. So one of there projects will be working on that trail. Then team Holla Holla will be going to the High School and working on projects over there. Its going to be a jam packed day and I am really excited.

As of now we have no one sick and everyone is doing great, we have had a few minor cuts, but nothing bad at all. Please pray for continued safety and that God will use us in amazing ways!

The photos are slowly making there way online, it takes a great deal of time. So for now click here to view them, and in the future you should just be able to click the photos link at the top of the page and go to the pictures page. We use flickr to host our photos and they do an amazing job, but as a recommendation, I suggest signing up with them, its completely free, does not require a credit card, but it gives you many more options of things to do with the photos. You can make prints, order DVDs, CDs, posters, and much more.

Safe Arrival

We have all landed safe and sound in Costa Rica and the bus ride wasn´t that bad. We are now at our hotel, unpacking and getting ready for some dinner. It has been a long day of travel, but its great to have finally arrived. I know I am in Costa Rica because the computer and all the websites are automatically translated to Spanish.
This is a relatively short post because to be honest we havent done anything yet except sit, and sit some more. We are on our way to the beach before dinner, but there are no waves. But the good news is I was able to get all surfboards on the plane for FREE, whoo hoo. So tomorrow I plan on writing a more detailed description of what is going on. Also I really hope to get some photos up. But thats all for now!!!!

The Ocean Hills Team Has Arrived!

It's so fun to have the OHC youth group here in Puerto Viejo! It's so comforting to see familiar faces and meet new ones as well. Since the team got in they've been busy on construction projects & building relationships with the Puerto Viejo youth through skating & surfing. One of my favorite aspects in hosting the OHC mission team is their ability to connect with the local people in ways that other teams cannot - specifically through board sports. In fact, recently, I had a local friend ask me about an OHC team member that visited almost 3 years ago! The OHC teams just have a way of connecting and in doing so, enhancing the ministry of Alternative Missions. I can't wait for what's in store for the rest of the week. Here's a sneak preview:
  • Construction: The team has split into 3 separate groups to work on improving the Alternative Missions property/ skate park and to do community work improving the local high school & play ground. Please be praying for the team as they develop relationships with the high school students & encourage them to come to the Skate Park where they can learn to skate & learn to fall in love with Jesus.
  • Skate Sessions: The team will also be spending time with the local youth at the skate park. I'm excited for the time we have planned for the local youth to teach the team how to skate....what a cool flip-flop of typical mission trip roles!
  • BBQ: Every Friday night we have Youth Club Night at the Skate Park. Typically, we open for skating at 5pm and then take a break to play games & do a Bible study before skating until 10pm. This Friday we're gonna host a BBQ for the team and all the skaters. Pray that this would be a time where both the OHC team and the local youth have a chance to encourage one another in their faith!

I'll post some pictures soon.....

Serving Joyfully,

TJ

Belize & Beyond Mission: August 2007

Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship, Spanish Lookout:

The Children Bible Camp for the neighboring villages was a great success as many participated in the 4 days of teaching, arts and crafts and lots of fun. Pat Lindsay from Calvary of Albuquerque came down to assist and was a great blessing to the children, teachers and the Church family of Amazing Grace. Please pray for fruits to abound in the lives and families of the children who attended.

The church building is progressing quite well as the walls have gone up and the roof is to be done this week. We gathered last Friday evening for the Men’s Prayer meeting in the church yard and rejoiced at the ways and timing of the Lord as we have prayed so earnestly for a meeting place that can accommodate the fellowship. We are looking forward to the Ocean Hills Church Men’s ministry who will be coming in a few weeks to help out with finishing touches on the building. Thank you for praying for this with us and rejoice with us for the work the Lord is doing and will do with the fellowship!

Living Hope in San Pedro Town:

History was made on July 18 as a small group of believers met on the roof of the building that house Lighthouse Christian Radio for the first meeting of the Living Hope Consolation Group. After much prayers and discussions with several pastors in San Pedro Town, the time finally arrived for us to meet for the purpose of ministering to those infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. This was the first of its kind of a group of believers from several churches gathered on the Island for this purpose.

We began running radio announcements, passing out letters of invitations to pastors, the local hospital, the Town Board, and governmental agencies about the formation of such a group for several weeks. Not really knowing what to expect but really sensing the need for the Body of Christ to begin to reach out to those with this disease. Seven of us gathered together and after opening up with prayers and sharing briefly about the vision for the Group, each person began to share their purpose for coming to the meeting. One sister, we’ll call her Maria, shared her struggles as one living with AIDS and the rejection she experiences from her family. The scripture came to mind from my recent study of Matthew’s Gospel where Jesus said, “Here are My mother and brother! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother”. Before the thought was completed in my mind, one of the 2 pastors at the gathering began to quote that very verse and assured her that she is now in God’s family and that we are now her brothers and sisters and will always be there for her. The pastors shared their hearts about the need to reach out to the community with the Living Hope that we have in Christ but saw the need for more training first to better equip their members regarding HIV/AIDS. The Group will be meeting weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Please pray for this weekly meeting of Living Hope Consolation Group. Also for an upcoming training sessions that the Spanish.Churches in San Pedro will do as they were trained by The He Intends Victory ministry this past May.

Equipping to equip:

The need is apparent as over 18 churches and 50 people have already signed up for the Sunday School Teachers training on August 18. The half day training seminar will be conducted by the Ocean Hills Church Mission team and we are looking forward to a great time of instructions and fellowship for Sunday school teachers of children 6 to 11 years old. Please pray for a sweet time of networking and developing of lasting relationships among the teachers from the various churches and denominations attending.

A quick California Trip:

The plan was to leave Belize on Monday, July 30 so that I can get my ‘year after surgery’ check-up and to perform the wedding of Serban and Brittany on August 5. I was reminded of the verse ‘man making his plans but God directing his steps’ as flights were canceled or over booked. I was also reminded of what we all know so well and forgets so easily……..’all things work together for the good’. Those 2 days of back and forth, to and from Belize City Airport proved to be quite a blessing as many ‘divine appointments’ took place: spending time with a Baptist pastor from Belize City, meeting a newlywed couple involved in ministry, seeing fellow missionaries that I hadn’t seen in awhile, getting a ride from the ministry leader and catching up on what they are doing, and more. A sweet reminder that my plans are neither His plans, nor my thoughts and ways are not His! What a delight to remain flexible and available to the Lord and seeing the fruits from it rather than getting frustrated and bent out of shape.

I just returned from the last of several doctor’s appointment and was given a clean bill of health. Cancer free after a year after surgery! Please join me in thanksgiving and gratitude to the Lord for all of wonderful works!

Upcoming Events:

August 8 Returning to Belize!

Aug. 11 – 21 Ocean Hills Church Mission team.

Aug. 21 – 28 Passport to the World Mission Conference, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Please pray for:
Continual growth of believers at Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship, Spanish Lookout. For the Women’s Ministry Outreach to the ladies in the Community on August 16.

The He Intends Victory San Pedro (Living Hope Consolation) support group for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS; Wednesdays at Lighthouse Christian Radio.

What More Can I Say?

Youth Retreat

Thank you for your prayers! The youth retreat was a huge success and tons of fun. I wish I had the eloquence of writing to make you understand the depth of joy I feel at the major accomplishments that took place last weekend. There seems to be no way to accurately describe them, but I pray that God will give you understanding of the ways that He so greatly worked. It was a truly beautiful time.

Some of the accomplishments were in the following areas…

  • Spiritual – We taught specific lessons on spiritual disciplines that help us know God: praying, reading your Bible, worshipping, and journaling. Many students understood these disciplines for the first time and practiced them at the retreat.

  • Outreach – We did a last-minute children’s outreach in the slums of San Jose in a town called “Little Hell.” I was shocked at how our students stepped out of their typical shy behavior & stepped up to the plate. Sebastián led the kids in children’s worship songs (no idea where he learned those!); Jóse opened and closed the event in prayer; Jordan, Davis, & others led the kids in games; and Dexter shared his testimony! (he’s never done that before) – and all of this was in front of at least 100 people! For many of them, this was the first time doing anything like this!

  • Work Ethic – we spent one entire morning helping with a digging project at the farm. The kids were so thankful for the opportunity to be there that they did more work than expected and did it with great attitudes.
  • Overall fun – We simply had a blast together & it was great hanging out with the kids rafting & doing late-night sock skating (sliding on ones socks and knees on a smooth surface).
Baptisms

Upon our return to Puerto Viejo, 2 people asked to get baptized, recognizing this outward expression of the work God is working inside of them. This past Sunday, Peace (28) and Dexter (18) were baptized in the Caribbean ocean. Peace has beena a Christian for 3 months and can’t wait for God to teach him more about Himself. Dexter has been a Christian for 1 year now and is even interested in learning how to lead Bible studies! (Until now, Dexter has been one of the shyest members at house church).
God is truly working in the hearts of the youth, which is pretty strategic. The youth are the core members of the English house church & are the ones ready for change. Puerto Viejo has a very legalistic view of God and how to be a Christian—what a beautiful work to begin in the lives of the future leaders of this town.

Please, keep praying for Peace, Dexter and the rest of the youth. Your prayers are a valuable part of God’s work.

Prayer Needs

1st Ever Youth Retreat

This weekend, we will take 15 youth from the skate park to the mountains in San Jose for an experience they’ve never had before. With the help of a visiting team, we will host a retreat involving lessons about the basics of having a relationship with God. We’ll also spend time doing service work in the slums of San Jose and have a fun day of river rafting.
This is a HUGE step forward in the youth ministry & in the lives of each student. Most of the students coming have made a decision to follow Christ, but not all of them have; and for most of them, they’re in the process of learning what that means. Each participating student is in a different place in their lives and in their faith. For example, one girl, Anastasia just began coming to House Church a month ago. God and Christianity is so new to her that two days ago was her first time hearing the whole story of Christ, from the beginning of the Bible to the end. On the other end of the spectrum is a 19-year-old boy named Davis. Davis gave his life to Christ almost one year ago & has learned to depend on God and scripture for the difficulties he faces. In fact, just last Sunday, his parents, who are active Jehova’s Witnesses, told him he must stop being a Christian or they would disown him. Davis’ response was to choose Christ and recall specific scriptures he has learned, ready to face the difficult consequences.
Again, the potential for what this weekend means in light of eternity is astounding, but I can’t believe that it won’t be met without resistance from the enemy. We have been battling in prayer on behalf of each youth participant and ask that you would join us in prayer.

How to Pray

Below, I’ve listed some prayer needs that I have recognized; but I know there are need I am not aware of. Please pray according to how the Spirit leads you…(Eph. 6:12 & 18)

· Pray that all obstacles would be removed that would hinder any youth from coming
· Pray that all students would learn to fall in love with a Savior.
· Pray that the youth would understand the depth of the love & forgiveness God offers them. Also that they would learn how to turn to the Bible and to prayer for the tough situations they face in life.
· Pray that those who have proving themselves as leaders would learn how to lead by loving and serving one another.
· Pray for us as staff & for the visiting team helping host this retreat. We need wisdom in every aspect of this retreat and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit in His leading.
· Pray for meaningful conversations to happen in addition to the teaching sessions—that students would be real & share with us and that God would grant us wisdom in giving counsel & bring to remembrance specific Bible verses to respond with.
· For safety and protection during the work day and river rafting.

Thank you for your prayers!

God at Work

Exciting Growth in the Youth Ministry

It’s only 7:00am here in Puerto Viejo, and I can’t wait another minute to share with you the evidence that God is at work in the lives of the youth! Do you remember when I wrote in a previous email to pray for me, Sebas, and Jetsie as I was beginning to teach them how to lead worship for Sunday night house church? Well, as a result of our prayers, they are actually learning how to worship God themselves. And not only Sebas and Jetsie, but many of the youth who regularly attend house church. I don’t know how to explain it but within the last month and a half, there has been a distinct difference in our worship time together at house church – not only have they learned the words to the songs, but more importantly, they are growing in their knowledge of the One to whom they are offering their worship. It’s beautiful and so much fun to see happening! But wait, there’s more…
During Youth Club at the skate park one recent Friday night, we had a visiting team from a youth group in Arizona. They were playing couple of worship songs to advertise for the music clinic they were going to teach during the week. While they were playing, I was standing in the back next to Sebas (17) and Jordan (14) translating some of the words and talking about the music. Suddenly, Jordan turned to me and said, “TJ, how come you don’t go up and play….and Sebas can play the other guitar, and I’ll play the congas and Jetsie can sing?” !!!! Ok, let me just interject and say that this is NOT normal for our shy, small-town, too-cool surfer kids to want to get up in front of strangers, let alone their own peers, to lead in a worship song and definitively mark themselves as “the Christians.” I think they surprised themselves that we actually went through with it.

Wait, There's More...

Not only is their desire to worship God and be labeled as Christians evidence that they are growing in their relationship with God, but they are learning to serve as well. Now, in this culture, no one ever gives something for nothing. It’s actually a cultural norm that we’re constantly fighting against – always wanting to receive for free, never wanting to earn something for themselves, and absolutely never wanting to work for almost nothing in return. And yet, last week, this is exactly what took place for a few of our youth.
We had another visiting team from Christ for Life Sk8 Church in Colorado. This team was completely unlike any we’ve hosted before as their ministry almost exactly reflects ours. This team was a combination of Christians and non-Christians that stood at every point on the spectrum of their relationship to Christ. For some, their outreach was an opportunity to serve God, for others, it was a week to remain sober and learn about God themselves. It would be exactly like us taking our youth on a mission trip and that’s what made the week so much fun. For the first time, it was an opportunity for our kids to play a different role – they got to be both on the receiving and the giving end.
Together, the skaters from Colorado and our youth hung out and learned how to serve one another. The visiting team helped put on skate clinics throughout the week, teaching new tricks and bringing cool skate material. In return, our youth taught the visiting team how to surf, almost completely on their own accord!! It took some encouragement on our part, but we weren’t around when they decided to meet the team at the beach and spent hours teaching the mountain-folk how to surf. In fact, for the visiting team, this was the highlight of their week. One girl, who had difficulty getting the hang of it, told me how great it made her feel that someone took so much of their time to invest in her and make sure she learned. She was talking about Dexter (18), one of the youth from the skate park who attends house church regularly and is growing in his faith. He, Jordan, and Davis (20) spent time giving of themselves.

I hope these stories are as exciting to you as they are to me as we’ve invested in these youth together – you through prayer and financial giving and me by teaching and living alongside of them. Our youth don’t always make the best decisions…they’re very much learning how to trust God enough to let Him into their hearts and begin making changes on the inside before there is evidence on the outside. This is why seeing them make good decisions is so encouraging and brings to light what the Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 2:13, “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

Thanks for doing this with me! Let’s continue to be praying for Jordan, Jetsie, Dexter, Sebas and Davis as God continues to work in them. Please pray for the friends that they bring to house church – there is always at least one new face every Sunday night.

Also, please be praying for our first attempt at hosting a youth camp in July. We’re very excited to take our youth up to the mountains with a visiting team and spend time away from Puerto Viejo in deeper teaching, growth, and service time. I’ll fill you in with more details later!

Belize & Beyond Mission: July 07

Belize and Beyond Mission Update: July 2007

Over the past six months, I began transporting plants to the Radio Station on Ambergris Caye from the mainland of Belize. Since then the entire third floor of the Apartment building has been transformed as we filled the two 12 ft planters with various plants and rose bushes. It has really transformed the place with beautiful greenery. As I tended to my ‘mini jungle on the third floor’ it has become a sweet time of prayer and meditation as I escape from the stress of the day. God speaks to my heart daily through these plants. Today for example, I was pruning, transplanting and rearranging when God began to show me how He used difficult times and seasons of our lives to bring forth beauty. I was reminded of a year ago this time when I was franticly wrapping up my busy summer of ministry teams and making preparations for my lengthy absences from Belize for my surgery. Not knowing when or if I would be returning back to Belize and the pending changes that might take place as a result of the surgery. As I reflected back to that time and see all the Lord has done in my life and ministry since then and the fruits that budded from that season of difficulties.

Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship, Spanish Lookout:

Work has begun on the property to prepare it for constructing the temporary meeting place for Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship. We have been meeting for several years in the garage of one of the families that attend the fellowship. We have outgrown the garage and needed more room for the children as well. Two 30X40 buildings will be built and joined together which will be the sanctuary and children ministry. The men of the fellowship have been helping out on the preparation and enjoying fellowship and laughter every step of the way. If you have some construction skill and would like to come down and assist in this undertaking, please contact me for more information!

Rudy and Rachael have settled down in Canada and are greatly missed in Belize and in his absence Ronald, Jacob and myself have been rotating teaching at the Sunday Morning Worship Service. We are currently using DVDs for the Wednesday evening Bible Study. Please continue to pray for an interim pastor/teacher to come down and assist in this time. If your heart is moved to serve in this capacity for any duration of time, please pray about it and contact me for more information.

Lighthouse Christian Radio, Ambergris Caye:

On July 16, 2004 we flipped the switch of the transmitter and Lighthouse Christian Radio was birth and the Gospel of Jesus Christ began to ‘shine the Light in darkness’ in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye! We thank the Lord for all of you who have played such a major part in the ministry of Lighthouse Christian Radio over the past 3 years through your prayers, encouragement, visit, and financial support. We are grateful to all who has assisted us, you know who you are and most importantly, God knows who you are and we pray His riches blessings upon you. Thanks so much!

We had a visit from an officer from Civil Aviation regarding our proposal for a 40 foot tower to be erected on the roof of the building that houses the radio station. We are located ½ mile from the San Pedro Airstrip and permission must be granted before we proceed with plans. The initial report was very favorable and now we wait for final approval. Please pray for approval from all of the authorities involve.

As we reach out to the communities on Ambergris Caye and seek to make a difference with the hope that is in Christ for those infected and affected with HIV/AIDS, a chapter of He Intends Victory has been formed in San Pedro Town. Four pastors, 3 Spanish speaking and one English speaking, are currently involved and have been praying about how to minister to those with this disease. We will be starting a weekly support group on July 18 and Lighthouse Christian Radio will be hosting it. “Living Hope Consoling Group” is what we will be calling the support group. Please pray for us as we begin this vital outreach to those with HIV/AIDS and their families!

Upcoming Events:

Happy 3rd Birthday Lighthouse Christian Radio Ministry, July 16.

Living Hope Consolation Group (HIV/AIDS) support group begins, July 18.

Children Bible Camp in neighboring villages of Spanish Lookout, July 25 – 29.

Traveling to California for follow-up doctor’s appointment at the end of July.

Planning and preparation for the Sunday School/Children Ministry training for churches in the Belmopan/Spanish Lookout areas by Ocean Hills Church Team in August.

Please pray for:

The Body of Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship as they will be hosting two Children Bible Camp for the neighboring Villages in July.

The He Intends Victory San Pedro (Living Hope Consolation) support group for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS; the first meeting will be July 18.

Response to your prayers

To our praying partners at OHCC. Thanks for all your prayers concerning our need for an office facility. We have just signed and are getting installed. It is just perfect for our purposes - a real answer to prayer and a great response from God to our steps of faith.
The counselling and teaching ministry is taking of in some unexpected and exciting ways and God is enlarging our network of friends, families, groups. More info soon with a few photos.

We have recently been givien the chance to purpose a small second hand car for ministry purposes. We are interested as it reponds to a real need. We need to see some finances coming together for that (3 500$).

Expect Great Things, Attempt Great Things

EXPECTING GREAT THINGS

The great missionary, William Carry, lived by the motto: “Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.” This summer is a time of attempting great things for God….

Last week kicked-off the busiest season of the year here in Puerto Viejo as we hosted our first short term mission team of the season. My job as the Director of Short Term Missions is to plan for and host these teams in such a way that they enhance on-going ministry with extra skills & activities that groups can bring. It is an extremely busy job this time of year, but so rewarding in the results it brings.

For example, by the end of the short term team season last summer, we had the skate park built and youth ministry started. Teams often enable us to host events and touch people’s lives in ways that we cannot do on a regular basis.

This summer, we have plans to finish the construction at the property (the office, skate trailer, and music café); participate in the community with projects at the preschool and police station; and expand the youth ministry with new participants and by developing youth leaders. We’ll even host the first ever youth retreat for the youth of Puerto Viejo with the help of a visiting team! Needless to say, we expect big things from God as He has proved so faithful in the past.

Please pray with us that God will touch the lives of the 100+ short term team participants as well as the local people. We’re always praying for team members to return as long term staff and, praise the Lord, He’s doing it! One of last week’s participants, a contractor by trade, committed to return and serve with us for a few months this summer!

I’ll keep you updated on all that God is doing as we expect and attempt great things.

BUILD YOUR HOUSE UPON THE SAND?

Last week’s team helped us run a Bible program at the local elementary school. The purpose was to create more awareness about the Kid’s Church we host on Sundays and to get the parents involved. At the end of the week we hosted a Sand Castle Building Contest for the families in the community. Sad, but true of the nature of this place, only the moms showed up, but we still had a great time. Many of them admitted they’d never even built a sand castle before!
One woman, Angela, best illustrates God at work through our fun. She had never heard of the Kid’s Church and was very interested in attending the Spanish house church. Generating this type of awareness and encouraging families to get involved is the first step to seeing lives changed by God. Praise God for a fun opportunity!

Please Pray for Me

· As fun and rewarding as the summer season is, it is also extremely tough on us as staff. Please pray for the health of my team—physically, within families, and in our interpersonal relationships.
· Our only summer intern arrived yesterday and is both living and working with me. Please pray for April that God would use the next 3 months to shape her as a missionary. Please pray for me that I would have wisdom the various relationship roles as roommate, “boss”, and friend/mentor.
· Also, please pray for my personal safety as I travel alone to San Jose a couple of times a week throughout the summer to pick up and drop off teams.

Thank so much for your faithful prayers and financial support. I truly believe that God is able to work through me due to your involvement. I’ll do my best to keep you informed of all God is doing as you continue to partner with me in this ministry.

Serving Joyfully,
TJ Gause

Belize & Beyond Mission Update: June 07

Belize and Beyond Mission Update: June 2007

“Not by might nor by power but by My Spirit says the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6

The past month was one of the busiest as one event led to the next, back to back teams, people coming and going! Looking back now it all seemed as if it was months ago that I arrived back from California, but I thank the God for the awesome privilege of co-laboring with Him in Belize.

Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship, Spanish Lookout held its first Men’s Retreat in Hopkins Bay and twenty four of us enjoyed fellowship and had lots of fun. It was good to see the bonds built in the times of studying the Word, praying in small groups and canoed in the Barton Creek Cave. Pastor Mike Lutz from Ocean Hills Church, taught on being a Man of truth and took us threw the Epistles of John. As I glanced across the meeting room my heart was overjoyed as I reflected back over the past six years of knowing many of these brothers and the work of God in their lives and relationship with Him. John the Apostle said it best, “I have no greater joy than to see my children walking in truth.”

He Intends Victory International spent a week in Belize and conducted Seminars in Orange Walk Town, a Northern District, and in San Pedro Town, on Ambergris Caye. The focus of these seminars was to educated, inform and equip the Spanish speaking portion of the Body of Christ and to assist them as they reach out to those infected and affected with HIV/AIDS. It was a great success as the walls of ignorance fell and eyes were opened to the vast opportunities for Churches to join together in giving hope to the hopeless. In San Pedro Town., four local pastors are now working together is forming He Intends Victory San Pedro and making plans to start a support group for those infected and affected in the very near future. We’re so grateful for the partnering of He Intends Victory Ministry with Belize!

Calvary of Albuquerque’s School of Ministry spent a week in the Belmopan area working at Marla’s House of Hope, a home for sexually abused children, doing landscaping and ministering to the children. Laughter filled the Home as the team shared Bible stories by puppets which captivated their attention. The older residents of the home met individually with team members as they sought to help them in making preparation for adulthood while the younger ones enjoyed arts and crafts. The team took a few days on Ambergris Caye where they put on a Children Program and again, the puppet was a big hit. Several kids gave their hearts to Jesus as a result.

Upgrading has begun as Ron Marland, an engineer from GALCOM International and his good friend Lee Meyers arrived in Belize this past week to make analysis and preparation for a permanent tower and antenna. Ron emailed me a month ago and said, “Let’s get started so that the supporters of Lighthouse Christian Radio can be encouraged to hear that the work has begun.” He brought with him an antenna that we can use to get us back at broadcasting 500 watts while they work on our permanent antenna which will increase our coverage area tremendously. We have received permission from the owner of the building where the tower and antenna will be placed and we shared the usefulness of the roof as a canopy will be attached to the tower for shade with decorative planters. We use the roof now for times of fellowship, quiet times and just to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. We so appreciate the servant’s hearts and attitude of these men as they give of their time and resources. Please continue to pray for the finances for the permanent tower and antenna and for approval from all the various agencies.

We give thanks to the Lord for His provisions as we celebrated a year of having the 3 Apartments next to the Radio Station! The Staff Apartment which houses Dennis and Abner; the Guest Apartment that has been a blessing to many who stayed there this past year, and my apartment. When you are planning a trip to Ambergris Caye, let us know so we can reserve the Guest Apartment for you!

‘Thank you’ to all who responded to the urgent monthly support for my financial needs. After a previous month of very little support and last month without a paycheck, I admit that it was a bit discouraging yet knowing that where God guides, He will provide. The needs are many here in Belize and the fields are ripe for harvest, so pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send out laborers and that can be in the form of senders (supports) as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to read the Updates and for laboring in prayers, support, encouragement and your love.

Please pray for:

The Body of Amazing Grace Christian Fellowship as preparations are being made for a building; for Rudy and family as they journey to Canada this month and for provisions for housing, and work; for interim pastors in his absence and continual growth.

The He Intends Victory San Pedro support group for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

My monthly financial support as well as finances for Permanent Antenna and Tower.

A season of rest physically, vision for the Radio Station and ministry on Ambergris Caye.

Angola

Greetings from Zambia
I just want to share with you what is on my heart since it is overflowing with hope, vision, passion and conviction about what the Lord would have us do for the suffering people in Angola. As you know, we have been praying for a door to be opened for ministry in Angola since 1999 and today I have been blessed and challenged that that door has been opened and I am overwhelmed with the possibilities of what could be done if we go through the door as a team!
I have been waiting for a young man from Angola to show up here for the past week and today he came and I met with him together with Simon, our proposed missionary to go to Angola and we had a wonderful meeting. I was struck with the fact that In the meeting I was with one of God’s true servants, someone who has selflessly been serving the Lord and who now has come out seeking partnership and accountability which we are ready to provide. David Katiki has started an orphanage in response to the more than 450 little children that the community had identified as orphans in need, many of whom were orphaned due to the war and due to the HIV infection in the local areas. David was able to take in 50 of the children, ages 3 to 7 and has them up to date in a local centre he is running and it sounds like an amazing outreach! The congregation that he has started has two senior army generals in it as well as a number of prominent members of the local community in the city of Luena and they sent him to meet Simon who had previously gone to Luena with the vision of starting a church. It seems that this is the right timing because all of our efforts to get a work permit or even a visa for Simon before were un-successful but now the Generals say that getting a visa and even registering the church to give us legal status is a ‘piece of cake’ What a blessing!
Our next move is to send Simon on a one month survey trip which will involve teaching a seminar to the church in Luena, surveying one of the port cities as a possible place for our headquarters and getting all the necessary groundwork complete to get his visas and work permits and the registration of the church.
My prayer is that you guys can help me get partnerships in this mission so that together we can go through this door that I feel God is opening for His work. Our next move would happen after seeing what the real needs are for the Church work and the Orphan work, but I foresee us getting involved in a big way with this endeavour so please join me in praying for this that the Lord would push us to our limits to meet this need.
Part of the package for this work is to finish the community center in the Northwestern city of Mwinilunga where Simon has been working for the past 4 years establishing a strong church and a vibrant community project. This project would be well on the way to completion so that Simon could leave behind a working ministry at this Northwestern base of operations. The secondary purpose for this community center is to run our Bible training center for the churches in the Northwestern area, 900 klm from Kabwe. We have three other ZGBI graduates in that City that can manage and run all the projects there so we see it as a necessary step in completing Simon’s work before he leaves for Angola.
Our plan for leadership training is already in place as we will get at least 4 men from Angola to attend our Bible school in Lilongwe Malawi in the language of Portuguese with our new missionary Joel Molina. Joel will be opening a Portuguese class for Mozambique and Angolan men to get their Bible/Discipleship and missions training starting in January 2008.
Despite the work on many fronts, I feel that the Lord is calling us to “less talk, more action” and with this motto we are moving forward to Impact the continent of Africa as quickly and powerfully as the Lord allows. Join me as we continue praying for the dorr of opportunity to open for ministry in Lesotho and Sudan before the end of this year as we work on Angola and Mozambique where the doors are already open!
May God richly bless you and light the fire of passion and action under you as he has done for our team here on the continent!

Ocean Hills Rapid Response Team-New Orleans

Our team recently came back from deployment in New Orleans and was asked to write a short account of what stood out the most for them on this trip.....

Jack,

I talked to Charisse - She suggested I give you a short e-mail as to the highlight that most stood out to me on our trip last week to New Orleans. I know the expectation is a wonderful story of one of the souls we had a privileged encounter with, through GOD's grace, and there were many, but I have to say it was watching the spiritual growth of our teams!

We had 3 Chaplains coming for the first time, 2 for the second, one for the third and one for the 8th time. Six of us were from our church in Calif., and one from Pennsylvania. We also had 2 teams from Samaritans Purse - one from” Team His House” at the University of Michigan and “Team Touchstone” a Church from Sacramento Calif., which included some folks from Skip Heitzigs church in Albuquerque.

As the Chaplain Coordinator, I had the privilege to see our little group at a different level. The apprehension, the expectation, and the anticipation, before the trip, during the trip, and finally our departure.

I was blessed to watch the young group of college students from The University of Michigan (team His House) on their first mission’s trip. They were dedicated to serving the Lord and those around them, to see how it changed their lives by being obedient to HIS calling. It was exciting to see how GOD can use all of us, and to watch everyone be in total dependence and submission to the HOLT SPIRIT. How they opened up, trusted and enjoyed the will of our Heavenly Father, brought tears of great joy and humility to me personally. We were people of all ages and backgrounds experiencing GOD's grace, mercy and love as one family in Christ.

I know you have experienced this personally and have heard it said many times, but it is so true "We Get Just as Blessed as The People Who We are Trying to Bless". These folks will never be the same (including myself). Because of Gods hand on your great ministry, we have had the opportunity to experience "The Great Commission" and as James Ch. 2 calls it "The Royal Commandment - That We Love God With All Our Hearts and Love Our Neighbors as Ourselves".

On behalf of Sandy, myself and our team, I would like to thank you for the privilege of representing BGEA, I can assure you that we represented and held BGEA with the highest standards and integrity.

Give Bonnie our love.

Yours in Christ - Chuck Bender

Hello!

I'm finally joining the bog-world for OHCC missions and would like to give a quick introduction.

I have been working with Alternative Missions in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica since March 2004. What began as a new missions plant has grown into a number of ministries that I've enjoyed watching take shape:

  1. House Churches - This is our focal ministry and where true discipleship happens. Currently, we have 2 house churches running (1 English; 1 Spanish) and are praying for God to raise up leaders within each house church to branch off and plant new ones. In the meantime, we are praising God for the growth of the believers who attend - We just celebrated baptisms with a number of participants!

  2. Skate Park & Youth Ministry - The Concrete Jungle Skate Park exists for skaters and non-skaters alike to have a safe and positive filled environment to enjoy skateboarding. The skate park is open four times a week with anywhere from five to twenty five participants. Friday night skate sessions incorporate Youth Club Night where the Bible is taught, games are played, and relationships are deepened. This summer we'll be attempting our first youth retreat to encourage the Christian youth leaders in their faith.

  3. Music Cafe - Located on the same property as the skate park, we're currently completing construction of the cafe and hope to open for business within the next year. Taking advantage of the laid back atmosphere of Puerto Viejo, we plan to create a gathering place for locals and tourists alike. We hope to build genuine friendships and provide spiritual food to those who are hungry by helping them find the "Bread of Life."

  4. Kid's Church - With the start of the Awanas program this year (better known as "Oansa" in Spanish), Kid's church has grown to more than 60 participants from ages 2 to 15. Not only have parents come to know Christ through their children's participation in the program, but 5 of them are now teaching classes and actively participate in house church! Kids are a great avenue into local homes and families, providing a new way to make disciples.

So what's my role in all of this? Well, my official title is the Director of Short Term Missions for Puerto Viejo. Each ministry we have exists as a direct result of the short-term mission teams that have come down to serve. Not only do I plan for & host these outreaches, but I get to see the fruit & the long-term effects.

Additionally, I help oversee interns & the creation of an internship program, speak at youth nights as part of the youth ministry team, lead worship for house church, and assist our field director in any number of tasks that arise.

We have an exciting summer ahead of us & I'll keep you posted on all that God is doing. Thanks for your prayers & support!

Serving Joyfully,

TJ Gause

Office facility

Thanks to those who have been praying for the office need. We thought that we'd found the appropriate place when the agency phoned 2hrs before signing to cancel. The reason given did not really mean anything. We suspect it was just that they didn't want anything to do with a Christian organisation. Sadly very frequent here in France.

The need is becoming urgent and we'd ask you to join with us that God would unblock the situation
for an appropriate place for next week.

Thanks in Jesus,

Erwin & Del Henderson
